Kroger plans an automated fulfillment warehouse in Pleasant Prairie that could create up to 400 new jobs

Kroger, along with its U.K.-based technology partner Ocado, is planning a massive new fulfillment warehouse in Pleasant Prairie, a project that will result in up to 400 new jobs coming to southern Wisconsin.

The 350,000-square-foot automated warehouse adds to Cincinnati-based Kroger’s footprint in the Badger State. The company already employs 12,500 people in Wisconsin.

Kroger and Ocado did not specify what types of jobs would be created as a result of the facility being built.

The facility, which Kroger describes as a customer fulfillment center that it also sometimes refers to as a “shed,” will serve Wisconsin, northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.

“This project expands Kroger’s commitment to continued investment in Wisconsin and Illinois,” said Michael Marx, president of Kroger’s Milwaukee-based Roundy’s division. “With this cutting-edge technology, Kroger is confident our partnership with Ocado will play an integral role in the continued commerce growth of this dynamic region.”
