Carthage’s campus is an 80-acre arboretum located on the shore of Lake Michigan and offers breathtaking views from almost every building on campus. Carthage is home to 2,600 full-time undergraduate students and 400 part-time students. Our average class size is just 17 students. Carthage’s student-to-faculty ratio is 12:1. They have been nationally recognized as a Tier 1 Liberal Arts College and a Best Midwestern College.

Carthage fields mens and womens teams in more than 20 sports

Carthage fields 24 NCAA Division III teams competing in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. About a third of their student body participates in varsity intercollegiate athletics, and another third participates in the many intramural and club sports offered.

The Carthage curriculum ranks among the nation’s best with seniors performing in the top 11% nationally in critical thinking, writing, and problem solving. Carthage awards the Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in more than 40 subject areas, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, a Master of Education degree, and a Master of Science in Business Design and Innovation degree.

Carthage has invested more than $200 million in recent years in residential, academic, and recreational facilities.

Carthage's athletic and recreation center, student union, computer labs, audiovisual production suite, and numerous residence halls have all been constructed or newly renovated in the last 10 years. Carthage’s new $43 million science center opened in September 2015, offering state-of-the-art facilities for study in the natural sciences and providing new ways for students and faculty to collaborate on forefront research.

The Carthage curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinary study and hands-on learning. Students receive individual attention from professors at the top of their fields. They learn to tackle topics from new directions — and in new places. Students solve problems by conducting their own research, transforming them into a lifelong learner.

A partnership between an employer and an educational institution to benefit the student’s learning beyond the classroom.

An internship is a formal opportunity for students to integrate classroom learning with practical experience in the workplace. Interns enjoy real-work projects, close supervision and mentoring, and the opportunity to learn more about an industry and organization. The Carthage in Chicago experience provides students with a semester-long internship or a major academic project while living in one of the most dynamic cities in the world.

Carthage promotes learning outside the classroom in a variety of ways. It's ranked No. 5 nationally for student participation in short-term study abroad. On campus, there is always something going on: plays, lectures, movies, visiting performers, 5K runs. Tarble Arena has hosted the Script, the Fray, and Phillip Phillips, among others. With more than 120 student organizations, there are plenty of ways to get involved.
