Kenosha

My name is Ashleigh and I came to Kenosha from Lake County, Illinois when I was 16. We made the decision to move here in search of new opportunities for our family and built a home in Whitecaps when it was brand new, surrounded by families, kids, and a real sense of community. Some of my best memories started right there.

After attending UW–Whitewater, with help from a scholarship from the Kenosha Area Business Alliance, life brought me right back. I met my husband—also a lifelong Kenosha resident—and it just made sense to build our life here, close to family, community, and the moments that matter. We’ve been here ever since. What keeps me here goes beyond nostalgia. Kenosha offers real support for people at all stages of life—whether it’s resources for seniors, help during financial challenges, or organizations that guide people forward. It’s a place where, if you’re willing to take that first step, there are opportunities to build something better.

What do you love about Kenosha County that many people might not know about? There are so many opportunities for people with disadvantages. Seniors and those with disabilities or financial struggles have many opportunities here to take advantage of through the city and event the state of Wisconsin. My father moved here from Florida and he is doing the best he has ever done in his whole life here and is incredibly happy. I would recommend this city to anyone looking to find a better life as long as they are willing to put the effort in to find the help they need because those resources are definitely available here. Some things I can think of: bus routes for a monthly payment to get all over the city (senior discounts), a job center, a disability resource center, AA resources, NAMI resources and more.
