107-room hotel part of Somers development proposal

Category: Uncategorized

A hotel has been proposed in the village of Somers as part of the Somers Gateway development, which also could include a gas station and restaurants.

According to the proposed plan, the hotel is expected to have two flags attached to it, Candlewood Suites and Avid, which are part of IHG Hotels & Resorts, which also owns the Holiday Inn and Kimpton brands. Candlewood Suites and Avid are considered mid-scale brands on the hotel chain’s scale.

IHG reportedly told the Plan Commission that this is the first dual-branded Avid and Candlewood Suites “in this part of the country,” village documents show.

The applicants listed on the proposal are Devin Winter, of Excel Engineering Inc. in Fond du Lac, and Somers Gateway Center LLC, of which Parveen Kumar Bhardwaj, of Kenosha, is listed as the registered agent, according to state records. The hotel is expected to have 107 rooms, an outdoor pool and a conference room. The latter two amenities were requested by the Plan Commission.

Three rooms that initially were proposed for the first floor will instead be the conference room. Developers also propose a 129-space parking lot on the property.

The hotel is part of a larger, 25-acre total development that will include a gas station with a convenience store, two restaurants, possibly with drive-thrus, and the hotel. It is located around the intersection of County Highway E and East Frontage Road.

The project could break ground as early as this year, according to Plan Commission records.
